About Me

I'm Sabrina – a wife, mom, former teacher, and lifelong learner who fell in love with Mahjong thanks to my own mother during one of our annual summer trips to Michigan. My family has always enjoyed puzzles and board games – especially on vacations and holidays – so it didn't take long for Mahjong to become a meaningful addition to that tradition.

What began as a quiet game over coffee by the lake quickly became a cherished part of our relationship. We often talk about how my grandmother would have adored the game too.

Mahjong has become a little haven for me – something relaxing in the midst of busy mom life, but also something that challenges my brain in a way I crave after so many years at home with littles. As a former educator, I find fulfillment in helping players of all ages grow in skill and confidence while discovering the fun and strategy of the game.

I hope learning Mahjong brings you something just as special – whether that's connection, a sense of accomplishment, or a moment of peace in a full life.

Common Questions

FAQs

I suggest that new players start with a 101 and 102 class. After that, some like to join a few guided play sessions for extra practice, while others feel ready to jump in and play on their own once they've learned the basics.
Four-player tables are ideal, but not required! Mahjong can be taught with any group size, whether you have three players, seven, or more. The Mahjong Mom can even join in to play while teaching the lesson. My most frequently scheduled private lessons are for groups of 8.
All you need to bring is your enthusiasm to learn! I provide all playing materials. Players are welcome to snack and drink during game play, but if you're serving food to your guests, it's often nice to do so about 30 minutes before the lesson so everyone has time to eat and socialize before focusing on the game.
Life can be unpredictable! For private lessons, I'm happy to help reschedule if plans change, however, if any players cannot attend or no-show, the group is still responsible for the full lesson amount. If we are unable to find a replacement date, your 50% deposit will be kept. For group lessons, open play, and events, I follow the host venue's cancellation policy.
